The Canadian Society for Disability and Oral Health has been approved as a continuing education sponsor
The College is pleased to announce that the Canadian Society for Disability and Oral Health (CSDH) has been recognized by the RCDSO's Quality Assurance Committee as an approved sponsor. This designation allows CSDH to offer continuing education (CE) points for its courses, promoting inclusive and accessible dental care.
What this means for CSDH
The CSDH is well versed in the role of continuing education in dentistry and has the infrastructure and resources necessary to take on this responsibility. Its Scientific and Education Committee produces and shares educational resources that aim to increase oral health professionals’ awareness, knowledge and skill for providing oral healthcare for people with special needs and has a mandate to:
- Produce original webinars that uphold a person-centered care approach and, where possible, include techniques and concepts for oral health professionals to use to facilitate oral health for people with special needs.
- Share content from like-minded organizations to further enhance the knowledge base of CSDH members.
- Identify a range of ideas, strategies, and resources to further support the knowledge, skill, and abilities of oral health professionals to best serve this population.
The CSDH website includes links to resources ranging from curated content for oral health professionals to useful caregiver-facing resources and offers a series of webinars featuring expert panels on topics including Managing Pain for the Non-Communicative Patient; Connecting with Patients with Nonverbal or Limited Communication Skills and Trauma-Informed Care.
Why it matters
Ensuring equitable access to dental care is a top priority for the RCDSO. Many patients with disabilities encounter obstacles in receiving the treatment they need. Continuing education is vital in equipping dentists with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide inclusive care. With CSDH now recognized as an approved sponsor, more dental professionals can access high-quality education focused on enhancing care for people living with disabilities.
This milestone represents a significant advancement, supporting high-quality education while strengthening efforts toward creating a more comprehensive and equitable dental care landscape.
