Flexible Work
Our Toronto office (sole location) in the Rosedale neighborhood is conveniently located directly across the street from Rosedale subway station. Our staff enjoy a fully flexible work environment where they can work remotely or in the office. Our staff makeup represents a diversity of life stages, ages, abilities, backgrounds, and cultures. We believe flexible work helps us to recruit and retain diverse candidates and staff across Ontario. It matters to us that our staff closely reflect the public that we serve.
RCDSO embraces a flexible work culture framework rooted in four principles:
- Where we work is flexible
- We build a sense of community and connection
- We care about wellness
- We are committed to learning and growth
Work/Life Balance
In the summer (July 1st to September 1st), staff enjoy five-hour workdays every Friday.
To allow our staff some flexibility in their work day, we also offer alternative work arrangements, including compressed work weeks, flexible work hours and reduced hours work weeks.
We believe evenings and weekends are meant to allow you to focus on your life outside of work, so we encourage leaders and staff to disconnect outside of scheduled hours.
Work environment
A little down time can help strengthen working relationships. We have a great engagement committee that organizes various in-person and virtual events throughout the year, where staff get a chance to relax and get to know one another. It is also a great opportunity for new staff to meet the team and people from other departments. We also hold in-person town hall meetings once a year.
Our team members also have the opportunity to participate in important working groups on topics like equity, diversity and inclusion, joint occupational health and safety, service standards, and peer-to-peer support.
Accommodation
We welcome requests for accommodation throughout the lifecycle of our recruitment and selection process and throughout your employment with us. Individuals who require an accommodation per the Ontario Human Rights Code are invited to reach out to careers@rcdso.org to discuss with human resources at any stage within the process and we will partner with the candidate to implement a solution that meets their needs to the best of our ability.
Staff requiring accommodation will receive an individualized approach to their accommodation needs and have access to a variety of solutions and options in support of their success within the workplace.
We treat all staff and candidates as individuals. We evaluate candidates solely on their abilities to meet job requirements. This evaluation is conducted without discrimination based on race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religious beliefs, gender expression, age, physical disability, mental disability, marital status, family status, sexual orientation or any other factor that is legislatively protected under Ontario’s Human Rights Code.
Any form of discrimination or harassment based upon these factors will be addressed with the utmost respect and care. We are also committed to supporting individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). Please review our Accessibility Policy for further information.
Our Accountability to Staff: Staff Engagement Survey
The RCDSO holds an anonymous staff engagement survey every two years with an external survey provider. We examine our staff compliment by looking at a variety of diversity measures and monitor the sentiment of staff satisfaction and their feelings of belonging. Staff are also invited to share their ideas and opinions via an anonymous form and directly with the College Equity Officer and Equity staff.

All staff have access to a dynamic diversity calendar and are encouraged to reflect on meetings and events that are mindful observances and significant cultural dates. Staff are accommodated to use lieu time in support of time off for religious observances.
