Under the amendments to our governing legislation, the Regulated Health Professions Act, that are now in effect, QA programs must include continuing education or professional development designed to promote continuing competence and practice improvement.
Also, any QA program must include the following components: self-assessment, and peer and practice assessments, and monitoring of members’ participation and compliance.

Transition Period
The College’s continuing education program is in a transition period as we move towards implementing the new QA program.
During this period, a simple, generic log sheet is available for you to record all continuing education taken. You can download extra copies of the log sheet from the College’s website or make photocopies. Print off additional copies as you need them to keep track of your education experiences.

Keep all your continuing education documents together with your completed log sheets. When the new QA program is implemented, you will be required to submit these documents when asked. This requirement was created with the recent amendments to the Regulated Health Professions Act. So just keep your log sheet up-to-date and keep all your documentation in your own personal files.
Subject Codes
It is no longer necessary to record this information.
General Dentists/Specialists
There is no longer a need for specialists to obtain at least half of their credits in specialty-related courses. It is not necessary to indicate if your educational experiences are specialty-related.
Documentation
Keep all your continuing education documents together with your completed log sheets. When the new QA program is implemented, you will be required to submit these documents when asked. This requirement was created with the recent amendments to the Regulated Health Professions Act. So just keep your log sheet up-to-date and keep all your documentation in your own personal files.
Reporting Period
The new reporting period will start only when the new QA program is implemented. The College is moving forward with the development of the new QA program and members will be provided with more information and a special package explaining all the details.
Collection of Credit Points
Members are expected to record their continuing education on their Log Sheets and keep these Log Sheets with their CE documents. Points for courses taken during this transition period may be eligible in the new CE program.
Credit Point System/Approved Sponsors
The list of approved sponsors for continuing education programs and the credit point system remain the same.
Click here for an explanation of the Credit Point System.
Next Steps
Members will receive information about the new QA program over the coming months. The College will send each member a full explanation of how the new QA program will work together with a personal education portfolio to keep track of their own individualized continuing education experiences and all relevant documentation. Once the new QA program is implemented, a new CE cycle for all dentists will start.
